I was telling Adam this morning that I grew up feeling like a freak, that I believed I would always be denied access to love and inclusion because of how I looked and who I was. It is because of this that I will never stop supporting equality. Good morning, haters. It's a new day. Suck it.
This man has Santa Barbara written all over him. I have a very vivid memory of driving down to Stearns Wharf and then to Santa Barbara Roasting Company very early on New Year's Day and hearing TONS of Jack Johnson.
Of course, what I didn't realize is that I was pregnant.
I made Adam promise that he won't let me become one of these nauseating mothers who only talk about their precious little offspring, who post on Facebook with copious heart icons. "You won't do it," he said, "because you're you. And you'll still be you."
I still notice dogs before I notice kids. I'm still not particularly interested in talking about kid stuff. I'm still me. And I will always be me.
I'm a writer and storyteller in Berkeley, CA. If you're wondering where that is, follow the smell of patchouli and skunkweed. There you'll find me with my kickass husband, gorgeous little boy, and manic Lab-Australian Shepherd mix pups.
