On not having children

Having turned 40 a few weeks ago, I like to quip that the ship has sailed when it comes to having kids. That said, I'm not really quipping. Even if I were younger, I'm not exactly a fountain of fertility. What's more, though, I'm not sure kids would fit into Adam's and my lifestyle.

In fact, I'm pretty certain they wouldn't.

We're spontaneous and at the same time lazy. We eat dinner late and only sometimes get up early. We like to play more than we like to work. 

Is this the right structure for a child?

Am I making excuses?

Has the ship yet to sail?

I'd rather be 40 than 30, and would way rather be 40 than 20. (10 was a good year, though.)
