Number eight was the one I had to learn in order to make the novel work.
I think that's an extra-breakable rule but you need to have a damned good reason aside from suspense for withholding information.
Agreed. But it's a fine line we walk between withholding information that should be revealed, and offering too much ("Susie went to the bathroom three times today. She used six toilet-paper sheets each time.)
Come to think of it, the toilet-paper rule may be applicable in some form or another.
