Parents must be different from me -- different in how much noise they can tolerate. I've been listening to the whiny kid next door for a half hour and I'm ready to tear out every hair on my head. How do they tune it out? Or do they just go slowly insane, the mental illness coming with the drip irrigation of sound?

They've found that one characteristic that's common in both artists and schizophrenics is an inability to shut out sensory input.

So-called normal people can just ignore things. The barking dog, the lady on the cell phone, the cars honking...

No wonder I hate normal people so much.

Seriously. I was at this pub that I used to love (or thought I did) and I realized I couldn't read a fucking word because of the idiots around me. Argh.
